Finding Your Own Way - When the Romans were here, losing your sense of direction was really not an issue, thanks to the rather large stone construction stretching from one side of the country to the other. Since they left Britain, chunks of their Wall may have been recycled, however, in those places where the ancient boundary is less evident, the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is well signposted and generally easy to follow.
Time & Distance - If you've decided that walking self-guided is the option for you, the next step is to choose how long you would like to come for. You can walk as much of the National Trail as you like. You can spend a day or two exploring parts of it on a Short Break, or walk a 30- 50 mile stretch along the Best of the Wall (where the Wall itself is most physically evident) over a few days, or you can traverse the whole 84 miles length in 6 or 7 days, between Wallsend and Bowness-on-Solway - or for the intrepid few, you might even take on the 4-Day Challenge.

Single Base - If you only have a day or two to visit the Roman Wall, or you have a bit longer, but don't necessarily want to be tied to walking a specified distance each day, then having a single base to operate from, with a flexible pick-up and drop-off service, is a practical solution - which is what we're able to offer at Roman Stones.
Roman Stones - As the name suggests, is a stone cottage dating back to the C18th, built using stones from the Roman Wall, in the small village that was given the name 'Wall' because of its location and the material that was used to construct it.
Walks - The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is on the edge of the village. There are also some fabulous circular country fell and river walks nearby - including Brunton Turret, Planetrees, Heavenfield, Chesters Fort and the Bridge Abutment, all within a one mile radius of the village.
