Vaude Backpacker Tents

Backpacker Independence

Camping - As Hadrian's Wall is a World Heritage Site, unfortunately free camping is not permitted. In effect, camping opportunites are limited to a handful of locations, however we make good use of what there is. On our Treks, we set up camp in those places that are close to the Trail, at logical stopping points, as well as other amenities and facilities.

Campsites - Camping restrictions entail having to use approved campsites or private land where some kind of provision for campers has been made. Facilities at sites vary, however they all have running water and toilet facilities - in fact, it's only the last night's camp that doesn't have hot showers - but it does bring the opportunity to appreciate the fabulous varying landscape that you find yourself in.

Vaude Tents - We set up a maximum of four backpacking tents per camp. We provide Backpackers with sturdy Vaude tents - each being able to accommodate one or two persons. Each tent has an inner compartment for two persons sleeping side by side.

Vaude Backpacker Tent

Accommodation

Vaude Mark L 2P - Our Backpacker tents come from the Alpine area of Southern Germany, made for use in the mountains and more than capable of withstanding whatever the British weather can throw at them. They have a double skin, with an inner sleeping compartment and an outer sheet extending over the two entrances at either end, providing separate space for boots and gear.

Sleeping Mat - The tents may have built in groundsheets, however, the chances are you will appreciate a bit of insulation from the ground, so each person is provided with their own sleeping mat.

Sleeping Bag & Liner

Bed

Bag & Liner - For those who prefer not to have to bring their own sleeping bag (as well as squeeze it into the limited space of their rucsac), you can hire a Sleeping Bag & Liner off us for £20 (transportation between campsites included).

Trangia Cooker

Dining

Dining Out - It should be borne in mind that our Treks are intended to be adventurous. The dining experience on a Trek is the opportunity to dine in the fresh air, as you take in the amazing views of the ever-changing landscape.

DIY Cooking - Being Independent, you can prepare and cook your meals at your leisure. You may bring your own cooker and utensils with you, or you can hire them off us.

Hire Cooking Gear - In keeping with the traditional outdoor experience, we hire out well tried & tested Swedish Trangia Cookers - complete with Pans, Bowls, Kettle & Fuel. We also provide cooking & eating utensils. The Hire Charge for the Trek (including the transportation of gear between campsites), is £20 per tent.

Eating En-route - It's usually possible to get something en-route, in a pub or a tearoom - excepting on the central section between Walltown and Wall Village. The campsite near the centre of the Wall (third night's camp) sells basic snacks or they can provide a Packed Lunch.

Evening Meals - A couple of the campsites can offer an evening meal. Other than that, there's generally somewhere (usually a pub) where you can get refreshment and a bar meal not too far away from where you're located each night.
